Congress leader Mukesh Agnihotri will take oath as deputy chief minister. The swearing-in ceremony will take place at the historic Ridge of Shimla.
The party’s choice to make Sukhu the chief minister is a major setback for Pratibha Singh, who had openly staked claim for the top post, citing the legacy of her late husband, five-time chief minister Virbhadra Singh. Meanwhile, Singh’s supporters had lodged a protest over 58-year-old Sukhu’s elevation as cm. He, however, later told reporters that he had accepted the party high command’s decision.
