Triple Talaq Law
- One of the most important decisions of the Modi government 2.0 is to declare triple talaq as a criminal act.
- By passing the triple talaq bill in parliament, the government gave great relief to the victims of triple talaq.
- The triple talaq law is called the Muslim women (protection of rights over Marriages ) Act, 2019.
- The triple talaq bill was passed in Parliament on August 2019.
- Triple talaq is also called talaq-e-biddat. In this, a Muslim man could divorce his wife by saying divorce three times. He doesn’t even have to explain the reason for divorcing her.
- The purpose of implementing the triple talaq law was to empower Muslim women and prohibit the practice.
Scrapping Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir
- One of the biggest decisions of the Modi government is to abolish Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir.
- With the abrogation of Article 370, the government abolished the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir and made it a union territory.
- In addition, Ladakh was also made a union territory.
- Under Article 370, Jammu and Kashmir had exclusive rights.
- Parliament could also make no laws for the state other than for defence, foreign and communications matters.
- It had to secure the approval of the state government to enforce any law.
- The BJP in its resolution letter for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections had promised to abolish Article 370.
- During the enactment of Article 370, a resident of any other state in Jammu and Kashmir could not purchase land.
- After abrogation of Article 370, anyone can now buy land in Jammu and Kashmir.
- Earlier, 890 central laws are now in force in Jammu and Kashmir.
